Ham Radio Operators do not "Broadcast" and especially do not Broadcast
for Entertainment. I do believe that One-Way Communications (which you
would call broadcast) are prohibited in the FCC Rules for the Amateur
Radio Service. It is interesting that you posted this in
alt.radio.family as many family members may become interested in ham
radio. Hand held radios (and repeaters such as in GMRS Service) are
common and quite sophisticated in Amateur Radio. Ham Radio is not
however a Family Radio Service. Ever person communicating in a family
would all have to have earned a ham license by passing a test. In FRS
there is no license (aka license by rule) and GMRS individuals are
licensed and then the whole family can communicate under 1 family
members license. That's simply not true of Amateur - Ham - Radio.
