I saw a post in the Google archives in this group about these and
the Trisquare Company. Does anyone know anything about them?

The radios might be a bit spendy if the comment at the bottom of this
last article is right. More equipment besides the radios?

Try this website for more info:

http://www.trisquare.us/exrs.htm

When I wrote them, they said they'd be available in stores in May. I
haven't seen anything happen yet, so there are probably the typical delays
you'd expect.

Thank you. I just got a return E mail from their VP in charge of
sales. I was a bit surprised to get a response for some reason.
I want to get something for my lady friend and her daughter. They
live in a city and the security of these compared to the standard
FRS/GMRs appeals to me. No licensing requirement is also a plus if
these things work.
Do you think eavesdroppers should be a concern?

Dear Dean,
Thank you for your inquiry. Availability is expected in early and
late July for the models TSX100 and TSX300 respectively.
We will contact you with a retailer when product does become
available. In the meantime, if you have any questions or need
additional information, please contact me directly at
Suggested retail on the TSX100-2VP (includes 2 TSX100 radios, 2
rechargeable batteries, and desktop charger) is $99.95. Suggested
retail on the TSX300-2VP (includes 2 TSX300 radios, 2 headsets, 2
rechargeable batteries, and desktop charger) is $139.95.
Can you please reply on how you learned about our products?
Thanks again for your interest.
Sincerely,
Steve Koch Vice President Sales TriSquare Communications 1420 NW

Similar email to what I got.... except the release date was earlier.

Eavesdroppers *should* be a concern with FRS/GMRS. Never give out
sensitive information on the radio.

I just received an e-mail from the
sales folk at trisquare.us saying the
radios were available at:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat123900050003&type=category

Pulling up that url got the order pages for the two radios
(one at $100, one at $140), with the "backordered",
and 1-2 week delivery.

I wonder how big the company is. The marketing guy sent me a
similar email, as promised.
I normally don't like to be among the first to buy a new product but
this will be an exception.

I'm holding off for the moment, but may give in over the weekend.

pros: the psudorandom ISM channel hopppiing has a lot
to recommend it, both for security from casual interception
and (in theory...) interference breakthrough.

It also uses standard AA cells (I'd throw in NiMH) and
has the NOAA channels.

cons: it doesn't have FRS/GRS for cross-compatability, so
everyone would need one of these.
- I'm also annoyed at their price point. The "thousand"
channel unit is $100, the "billion" $140. I suspect
this is the same silliness that [deleted] pulls with
their radios, where the unit is exactly the same but
has a software "cripple" built into the cheaper one.

So I'd have to get at least two just to try it out...

(no idea about volume, audio quality, ergonomics...)

The FCCID for both the 100 & 300 is: O9GTSX300 (thats zero 9 G)

FCC Search
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/GenericSearch.cfm

I have two of the 300s and one of the 100s at the moment.
ERP is 1-Watt

I like these radios and feel much safer when my kids are talking on these
rather than FRS/GMRS. With the GMRS I don't like the fact that you have to
give your call letters with a toy walkie-talkie, in effect giving any perv
listening that has a computer the ability to find out whare you live.
Bad-FCC, Bad!

Yeah. eXRS has no annoying call tones trying to jam you. Assigning of
alpha tags for channels is nice. I'll let my GMRS license lapse when it
expires next year.

I've been playing with a set of the eXRS units. Nice idea,
but the human engineering interface is abysmal.

If they'd have spent a couple more hours thinking about
how people would be programming and using them, they'd
be much better.

Range is less than my five y/o Talkabouts...

Audio quality decent, nothing to write home about.

And... the NOAA reception is abysmal.

It didn't take long for one to end up on eBay.
Listing here: http://tinyurl.com/37dcdm
I sent an email to the Trisquare marketing guy. It doesn't look
like Best Buy is selling the optional headset. I don't think it would
fitunder a motorcycle helmet even if they did.
I'd like to use the radios as rider to passenger communication. I
wonder what kind or plug in would be needed for the headset. The
ideal setup, I think, maybe, would be the radio hooked up to some
sort of throat mics.

HEY JERK - If you are going to QUOTE something our forefathers said - you
should quote it correctly:

"I have come to the conclusion, that one useless man is a disgrace, two are
a law firm and three are called a congress?" John Adams in the play 1776."
