Yes, it takes a certain mentality to exclude someone from school for
consuming a soft drink.
Yes. I was suspended from school for consuming potato chips during
breakfast at my own home on my own time before school started and
before the schoolbus came to take us to school.

That's potato crisps to you Brits.
BTW, have you seen the news that the police - so concerned about
environmental issues in the Moat case - have been forbidden to
continue the practise of disposing of confiscated alcohol by pouring
it down the nearest drain, as that is illegal under environmental
law...and they've just found out about it.

It's a risk you take, if you live in a shoe-box in the middle of the
road, and the hard (and unfair) t'schoolmaister drives by in his
chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce on his way to school.
